"Egypt is the first in North Africa and the second in Africa in attracting direct investments and occupies the 20th rank in the FDI Performance index, "according to the International Investment Report (2008) issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Egypt received over 50 percent of FDI inflows to North Africa, recording an increase of 15 percent over 2006.
On the other hand, over 22 percent of FDI flowing to Africa was channelled into Egypt, which came in the second rank after Nigeria.
The report attributed these substantial investment inflows to Egypt to the policies, which target to improve the investment climate and increase productivity.
The report explained that FDI flows increased remarkably at the global level in 2007, recording a growth of 30 percent over 2006, totaling USD 1,833 billion.
The figure is much higher than the global record level realized in 2003 and was achieved in spite of financial and credit crises, which started in the second half of 2007.
